Thank you for the great support on Volcano Day. It was a real blast!

We have a few students who are having a hard time staying caught up.
We have quite a problem with some students coming unprepared with the
daily math assignment. Please check planners every day to see what students
are supposed to be doing each day, rather than waiting for a printout and trying
to help them “catch up.”

Students are writing a Dare essay at home about what they have learned in Dare.
They need to complete it to graduate from Dare. Each student has a Dare book
full of information to help with this. We would love to have them turned in by
Nov. 8, but they are absolutely due by Nov. 15. Typed would be great, but a
neatly handwritten report will be fine.

Orchestra is going well and we are glad to have Mrs. Clarke.

With the cold weather, please send students with warm clothes.
They will be outside on most days.

Time goes by so quickly and it’s hard to believe that we are well into
the second quarter.

Mrs. Williams received two new knees today and Mrs. Karen Illian is teaching
for her while she recovers.

The next blog update and grade printout will be on Wed., Nov. 13.

Thanks for your support,
Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Little,
Mrs. Sherratt, & Mrs. Illian

Thank you so much for meeting with us last week.  You have wonderful
children, and we think you are pretty great parents as well. We have
reached the end of 1st term.  Wow!!   All missing work is due Monday
in order to earn Worker’s Holiday on Tuesday. Please go to PowerSchool
and check your child’s grades.  We have sent category totals with all
missing assignments listed on it(if your child has anything missing).
Students also received a missing assignment list this past
Wednesday, October 9.  Worker’s Holiday will be on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
We will have a Read-A-Thon in the morning.  Students may wear PJ’s,
if they would like and bring a blanket or pillow, a few healthy snacks (NO drinks), and of course a book or books to READ.  Students not earning the activity will work in another room to work on missing assignments.
If you received a purple paper from Power School at your conference
and have NOT signed the forms, your child has been blocked from
using computers. The only way for them to be unblocked, is to sign
the electronic forms.  Mrs. Griffiths, in our front office, can help you
do this.
Orchestra WILL BEGIN TUESDAY!
Students are running the mile run next week in PE.  Please remember to
wear good running shoes and bring a water bottle.
Picture retakes will be Thursday, Oct. 24.
You are invited to come have a BLAST with us as we explode our
volcanoes next Thurs., at 2:30(Oct. 17) on the south playground.
Please do NOT park in the bus loading zone. You may  park on 500 S.
behind the playground, or in the parking lot.  Exploded volcanoes may
not come back in the school, so students need to take them home or take
them around to the dumpster at the north end of the school.
We are excited that the DARE program is going well here at South.
Our students are enjoying Officer Uresk. *Just for your information, our
DARE graduation will be Tuesday, December 10 at 2:30 in the gym. Students
will be writing a DARE essay in November, which will be required in order to graduate
from DARE.
Remember that we do not have school Mon., Oct. 21.
Reflections entries are due on Wed., Oct. 23.  You can get rules and
entry forms at http://www.utahpta.org/reflections.  The entry must
include the “artist’s statement”. The theme is “Look Within”.
The fifth grade Maturation Programs will be on Tues., Nov. 26 @ 2:00.
The boys are in the gym and the girls are in the library.  We hope that a
parent will be able to attend with each child, however a child may attend
without a parent.  We DO need a permission slip returned in order for
your child to attend. Most of you signed that at our conferences.
Please feel welcome to email, call, or come in anytime with your
concerns.  The next newsletter will be posted on Wed., Oct. 30.
                                     Thank you,
Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Little, & Mrs. Sherratt

*****Please sign the verification slip that your child brought home
and return it to school.*****
